Creating Winning Systems vs. Just Setting Goals

I love the James Clear quote:

“Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress. A handful of problems arise when you spend too much time thinking about your goals and not enough time designing your systems.”

This is just as true in sales as it is in life.

Think about it. Your goal this year might be:
“Become the #1 sales rep in my company by December 15th, 2026.”

That’s an awesome goal. But if you only focus on the outcome instead of analyzing the daily inputs that create that success, your results will always be limited.

The winning systems I’ve seen in my career—and in the careers of those around me who’ve had the biggest impact—include the following:

• Set a daily reminder to start your call block or work your Attack List. For me, it was 8:00 AM. No matter what I was listening to in the car—it was time to get to work.

• Have a weekly planning session every weekend to map out the next two weeks.

Continuously read great books. How to Win Friends and Influence People immediately comes to mind.

Focus on needle-moving activities. Avoid midday “nothing calls” with teammates—save those for the end of the day.

Geographically organize your territory so you can operate efficiently.

• Do one deep annual review of your business to plan for the upcoming year.

• Build consistent call schedules for your most important customers.

Quick question for you:

What’s ONE system that helps you stay consistent in sales?

Text me back—I read every response and always enjoy hearing what’s working for you.

Quick challenge for this week:

Before Wednesday at noon, reach out to 3 customers you haven’t talked to in the last 90 days.

No big pitch, just reconnect.

You’d be amazed how many opportunities come from simple follow-ups.

If you do it, text me “DONE.” I’d love to hear how it goes.

Regardless, systems help you WIN!

Let’s go win this week!!
