I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the idea of “hunting.”
I come from a family of hunters. My dad, and especially my older brother Joel, are great at it. Watching them over the years, I’ve realized something.
The mindset of a great hunter translates directly to great selling.
Sales is a relationship game. That part is true. But the strongest, most effective salespeople are also hunters.
They know where the needle-moving activity is, and they spend their time there. Not occasionally. Consistently.
They know exactly what their customers are buying today. Even more importantly, they have a clear point of view on what those customers should be buying next.
That awareness drives their actions.
Great hunters do not waste their time. They prepare. They study patterns. They understand behavior. They position themselves with intention, and when the moment comes, they act with precision (They work hard & smart).
The same is true in sales.
You can build strong relationships and be a disciplined hunter at the same time. In fact, the best do both. They care deeply about their customers, and they are relentless about pursuing the right opportunities.
With Q1 wrapping up, take a different approach. Study real hunters. Watch how they operate.
Notice how little they leave to chance.
Notice how focused they are on what actually matters.
Notice how patient they are until it is time to move.
Then ask yourself where your time is really going.
Are you busy, or are you hunting? (i.e. being productive).
